Cross-border Irish Language Entrepreneur
programme, 'Fiontraithe le Gaeilge'
The Minister for Rural, Community and Gaeltacht affairs,
Éamon Ó Cuív will launch an innovative
entrepreneurial skills programme in Foras Cultúir
Uladh, Gleann Cholm Cille, on Friday, 14th July at 12pm.
The project is part-financed by the European Union through
the Interreg IIIA Programme with the amount of €472,286
and managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the ICBAN
Partnership.
The two-year programme, with matching funds from Údarás
na Gaeltachta, has recruited thirty participants from community
and private businesses in the Gaeltacht and in the Interreg
region.
Entrepreneurial endeavours are flourishing in Ireland due
to the increased vigour of the economy and it is accepted
that this growth is an integral part of ensuring long-term
sustainability in employment.
Entrepreneurship is of particular relevance to the future
of the Irish language. The growth in Irish-medium education
and the increased investment in the Gaeltacht demands that
employment opportunities are available in the Irish language.
There are, in recent years, increased opportunities in the
Irish language sector, here and at EU level - in media,
technology, interpretation & translation, tourism and
education.
Entrepreneurs are ever keen to increase their knowledge
base. This new program 'Fiontraithe le Gaeilge' is directed
at individuals who are leaders in either social or private
business activity. The program's mission is to ensure that
the best support and mentoring is available to the participants.
Upskilling opportunities will be provided in communications,
financial and business planning, management challenges,
marketing skills, innovation in technology and management
with professional mentoring. Accreditation is available
through the Líonra initiative by the Letterkenny
Institute of Technology.
A number of participants will, at the end of the program,
participate in a special programme at a leading international
school of entrepreneurship.
'Fiontraithe le Gaeilge' is managed by Oideas Gael, Gleann
Cholm Cille in partnership with Forbairt Feirste, Béal
Feirste.
